Anne McLaren (1927-2007)Details of Funeral and Memorial Funds The Society sadly communicates the death on Saturday 7 July 2007 of Dame Anne McLaren FRS and Professor Donald Michie in a car accident. She recently celebrated her 80th birthday and we had the privilege of enjoying her active participation in the last Fertility 2007 joint meeting at York where she chaired a plenary session on "Assisted reproduction and society." Anne was an Honorary Member of our Society and has received the Marshall Medal, the Society's premier award, in 1985. She was still actively working at the Gurdon Institute in Cambridge. She was a friend and an inspiration to many members of the SRF. She will be sadly missed. The Society expresses deepest sympathy to members of Anne's and Donald's families and to their many friends and colleagues. Interviews with Anne McLaren: MED-NET-VET Network Initiative The Society for Applied Microbiology (SfAM) wishes
to inform our BSF colleagues of a very exciting initiative - An EU-funded
Network of Excellence for Research on the Control and Prevention of Zoonoses,
called MED-VET-NET. The Society for Reproduction and Fertility is managed by Council who are elected to office at the AGM, and by a group of advisory committees which include both Council members and other members of the Society. If you are interested in becoming a member of an advisory committee, please contact the Business Office for further information. The committees meet two to three times per year, as required and conduct other business by email or telephone. At the AGM to be held in Warwick in 2005, a number of SRF Officers are due to retire from Council having completed their term of office in accordance with the Society's Articles of Association. In the interests of maintaining continuity, Council have identified individuals to potentially step into these posts at the next election. However, any member of the Society can be nominated to stand for election, whether or not they are an existing member of Council. If you are interested or would like to nominate someone as an officer of the Society, please contact the Business Office at any time. Awards The Society for Reproduction and Fertility has, over the years, honoured the contribution of its members to research in the fields of reproduction and fertility by conferring a variety of medals and awards.
