Page title: Travel Information

The city of Ghent enjoys a convenient location and is easily reached by car, train or air. Detailed travel information will be sent to delegates with their confirmation. Delegates requiring assistance with flight/train reservations can contact the SRF Conference Secretariat who will be happy to make arrangements on your behalf or telephone +44 (0) 1423 564488.

By Plane:
Coming by air, you will land at Belgium’s national airport in Zaventem. From there, trains run every half hour with direct connections to Ghent’s Sint–Pieters station.

Brussels Airport

By Train:
Ghent has two stations: Ghent Sint-Pieters and Ghent Dampoort. The high-speed train Thalys departing from Paris will bring you directly to Ghent Sint-Pieters. The English Eurostar calls at all Brussels train stations, assuring an excellent connection with Ghent. From all other Belgian train stations, there are frequent services to Ghent.

By Car:
Ghent is at the intersection of two major motorways. The E40 motorway intersects Belgium and brings you from the coast starting in Ostend to the Ardennes via Ghent and Brussels. By taking the E17 motorway, you can drive from the French border to the Dutch border, passing by Kortrijk, Ghent and Antwerp.

When driving to Ghent, remember that the inner city is traffic free and no cars are allowed. When entering the city, watch for signs saying ‘Car Park Route’ to direct you to one of the car parks.

Buses and Trams:
Buses, trolley buses and trams serve the inner city of Ghent and it’s outskirts. Every traveller will find the most convenient mode of travel, thanks to different fares and combination travel passes. A bus ride can be combined with a cab ride, for example. The “Winkelbus” or shopping bus will bring you from Flanders Expo’s car park in a quick 10 minutes time.

De Lijn (Ghent’s main transport company) Tel: +32 (0) 92 109 311

Water Taxi:
Ghent has recently seen the arrival of the water taxi. These electrically propelled boats will take you all around Ghent. The water taxi is an environmentally friendly transportation option that is well worth trying.
